How to Contribute

Give to the School

Beginning Fall 2011, only online applications and payment are accepted.  The Urban Planning Department specifically requires transcripts from all colleges or universities attended and other material as listed below.

Applications for admission should be accompanied by the following other material:

  1. a statement of career goals and substantive interests in the field of urban planning and rationale for undertaking graduate study in urban planning at the University of Kansas;
  2. a resume;
  3. one copy of transcripts from all colleges or universities attended;
  4. three reference forms or letters of recommendation from persons qualified to comment upon the applicant's academic abilities and probable success in graduate study;
  5. scores from the Graduate Record Examination;
  6. online payment of application fees.

International students should also submit the following:

  1. TOEFL scores, if the applicant's native language is not English (a minimum score of 20 on each part of the computer-based exam, is required for regular admission);
  2. financial statement (The University requires the student to have a minimum of $34,698 per school year to cover the cost of studies for the application to be considered).

Application deadlines are July 1 for Fall and December 1 for Spring, but candidates are urged to submit them as early as possible. It may take several weeks to obtain all the materials required for an application file. International applicants must apply by June 1 for Fall and November 1 for Spring admission. Applications for financial aid are normally considered early in spring; in some cases there is a February 15 deadline for application. Most students enter the Program in the Fall semester, and courses are scheduled with this in mind. However, students are also admitted to begin their studies in the Spring semester. Students admitted provisionally may only begin in the Fall semester. Official transcripts must be submitted before enrollment.
