Studio 804’s New “Galileo’s Pavilion” Brings Sustainability to JCCC Campus

Student-designed posters selected for Get Out the Vote exhibition in N.Y.

LAWRENCE ‚ Get Out The Vote Posters created by seven University of Kansas Department of Design students were recently selected for an exhibition at the American Institute for Graphic Arts National Design Center in New York City. Two students, Jing Jian, Olathe, and Alyssa Bastein, St. Louis, each have two posters on display.

Smith-Miller To Speak On Creating Transformative Buildings

Henry Smith-Miller, principal of Smith-Miller+Hawkinson Architects, will speak at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21, 2012, at the Spencer Auditorium on the University of Kansas campus.

The work of the New York City-based firm draws its inspiration from ongoing investigations into contemporary culture, its history, and the complex changing relationship of architecture to society.

Architect Robert Hutchinson to lecture at Kansas City Design Center

Architect Robert Hutchinson, Seattle, will speak at the Kansas City Design Center, 1018 Baltimore, on September 17, 2012. His talk will discuss expanding the definition of architecture and research, focusing on the connections between them. A reception will commence at 5:30 pm, followed by the 6:30 pm lecture.

“R 609”, an exhibition of selected student work produced by six Department of Architecture 609 Comprehensive Studio classes last year, will be on display in the A&D Gallery until September 13.

Subtitled, “Representative Outcomes of the Comprehensive Design Studio,” the student work represents the efforts of several faculty members in recent years to develop an instructional model that encompasses every aspect of architectural design.
