Phillip Hofstra, professor of design, was awarded the 2012 H.O.P.E. Award during the Nov. 17 KU vs. Iowa State football game in Memorial Stadium at the University of Kansas.

French Students Here as KU Students Take on Paris

This semester seven architecture students from Paris are spending the semester immersing themselves in American architecture, scenery, and culture.

They are part of a foreign exchange program with the Ecole Nationale Supérieure D'Architecture Paris Val De Seine. For its part, the KU Department of Architecture sent 15 students to Paris who will take one semester of classes in Paris and another semester interning in offices in France.

KU Architecture Ranked No. 14 in DesignIntelligence Rankings, No. 1 in Midwest

November 8, 2012 — The University of Kansas Department of Architecture’s masters of architecture program is ranked 14th out of the 99 universities offering graduate degrees in architecture, up three places from last year, according to a leading national survey of architecture firms.

Matt Fajkus serves as the director of the Thermal Facades Lab at UT Austin, and is co-principal of UT’s Smart Building Initiative. His research focuses in the intersection between building physics and phenomenology. He also maintains an architectural practice, Matt Fajkus Architecture.

David Hill, Designer of the ThinkPad, to Give Hallmark Design Symposium

David W. Hill, the vice president of brand management for the computer manufacturer Lenovo Group, will give the next Hallmark Symposium Series lecture at 6:00 p.m., Monday, September 24th, at 110 Budig Hall. The biweekly symposium is supported by the Hallmark Corporate Foundation, and presented by the KU Department of Design. The event is free and open to the public.

AIAS sponsors Midwest Quad Conference

The AIAS Midwest Quad Conference is being hosted by the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design, and Planning. We hope to bring hundreds of architecture students to Kansas City for the event.

The dates are November 2 through 4. Register soon! The Early Bird Discount ends October 2. AIAS members pay $35, non-members $45.
