Department of Design students win 23 AIGA KC Awards

Last month the Kansas City chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts announced its annual A9 Awards. Department of Design students won 23 out of the 31 the student awards, including the 2013 AIGA Kansas City Scholarship and two Juror’s Choice awards.

Student semifinalist in International Design Competition

The Arc Tap, a faucet designed by Department of Design student Leslie Montes, Houston, is among the semifinalists for an international design competition, the James Dyson Award. The contest is intended to inspire college students studying industrial design and engineering to create an innovative product that solves a specific problem.

Architecture Professor earns Graham Foundation Grant

Assistant professor Farhan Karim of the Department of Architecture has been awarded a Graham Foundation grant. It will support the research for his book, Dreaming of a Nation: Architecture and Cold War Modernization in Postcolonial Pakistan, 1947-1971.

Design students’ biofuels, climate change panels displayed at Spencer Museum of Art

Last spring, Department of Design students in Professor Patrick Dooley’s Visual Communications Publication and Editorial class designed 1 Kansas Farmer, a series of six display panels that present topics related to the environmental realities facing Kansans today and their historic roots, dating back to the Dust Bowl of the 1930s.
