$100,000 Howard Nearing Prize honors 100th year of KU architecture

This weekend, as the University of Kansas School of Architecture, Design and Planning marks its centennial anniversary, the school is also celebrating a gift to honor the occasion. The Prairie Village architectural firm of Nearing Staats Prelogar & Jones (NSPJ) has made a $100,000 gift for a student prize within the school.

Anthony Schmiedler Receives Wounded Warrior Scholarship

Design Department student Anthony Schmiedler, Kansas City, Kan., has received one of two KU Office of Graduate Military Programs’ Wounded Warrior Scholarships. They are the first ever awarded.

Consumers test CDR student designs for Ford Motor Company

On April 14, Center For Design Research students set up the front half of a Ford Taurus at a Lawrence grocery store so the public could test working models of new steering wheels, dashboards, and consoles they have developed.

Design wins Best School at National Student Show

April 15, 2013
Last Saturday the School of Architecture, Design, and Planning’s Department of Design was named Best School at the Ninth National Student Show. It is the second year in a row the department has won the show’s top academic award.

Andrea Herstowski, Interim Chair and Associate Professor, “We are thrilled to have won “Best School” back to back years. There are schools with tremendous talent, and the competition is extremely intense.”
